Climate in Cairns

Cairns has two distinct seasons: a winter of warm temperatures and low rainfall, and a summer of balmy temperatures and higher rainfall. The cooler drier months begin in May and endure through to October, offering the most idyllic weather: sunshine, fresh breezes and low humidity. A tropical summer season extends from November to April, with tropical downpours of an afternoon and dramatic electrical storms. Beautiful waterfalls and fresh water streams abound and offer a another alternative to the beaches.

Average temperatures are 31.4°C maximum and 17°C minimum. Average annual rainfall is 2,010 millimetres. Seawater temperatures vary from 23.2°C minimum in July to 28.7°C maximum in February.
